What is the difference between a manual and power on reset for SH2 ?

Latest Updated:03/18/2009

Question:

What is the difference between a manual and power on reset for SH2 ?

Answer:

Manual and Power on reset have different vectors. This means there are 4 vector table entries in total (2 entry point vectors + 2 initial stack pointer entries). Both resets have different input pins although the WDT can be configured to cause either on an overflow. The most important difference is that a manual reset does NOT initialise the BSC or any other peripheral and the current bus cycle will not be aborted. This is critical when NVM is used in the system. Manual reset can be considered to be a soft reset and a power on reset is a hard reset.
