Is it possible to apply 41V to C1 and C2 output pins?

Latest Updated:12/01/2011

Question:

I'm using the uPC494 at Vcc = 12V.
According to the data sheet, it should be OK to apply a voltage of 41V to the C1 and C2 output pins (pins 8 and 11 respectively).

Normally, it is not possible to apply a voltage higher than the power supply voltage to the input pins of an IC, so is it actually OK to apply 41V to these pins?

Answer:

No, you must apply a voltage within the power supply voltage range.
The IC is designed so that it will not be damaged immediately if a voltage higher than the power supply voltage is applied, but it is important to note that the IC is not actually tested under these conditions.
