E1200416 error when executing a program on RL78 MCU using E1/E20 in CS+

Last Updated:02/14/2018

Question:

When attempting to debug the RL78 family MCU in the CS+ environment using the E1 or E20 emulator, the following error message is displayed when executing a program after having downloaded it.

Executing program failed.
[Direct Error Cause]
No responce from the CPU. Please confirm the signal of the CLOCK or RESET and so on.(E1200416)

Answer:

Check the following.

  1. Does the wire connection between the E1 or E20 emulator and the microcontroller differ from the recommended circuit?

Refer to Recommend Circuit Connection in "E1/E20/E2 Emulator, E2 Emulator Lite Additional Document for User’s Manual (Notes on Connection of RL78) " and check the wire connection. Communication cannot be performed correctly when the wire connection differs from that of the recommended circuit.

  2. Are the clock settings correct?

When using an external clock, the clock needs to be set in the [Clock] category provided in the [Connect Settings] tab on the Property of the debug tool.

  3. Is the stack area to be used by the debugger allocated?

A 4-byte stack area is required for the E1/E20 emulator. Set a stack pointer with the amount of (stack area consumed by user program) + 4 bytes being estimated.

For details, refer to "E1/E20/E2 Emulator, E2 Emulator Lite Additional Document for User’s Manual (Notes on Connection of RL78) " -> "3.3, Securing of area for debugging" -> "(b) Securing of stack area for debugging".
