Are there precautions when using external clock as synchronous clock?

Latest Updated:01/16/2006

Question:

(Serial Interface)   Are there any precautions I need to take when using an external clock as the synchronous clock? [2006/01/16]

Answer:

Since the clock cannot be controlled internally, note the following points and control the external clock.

  • After the SST instruction is executed, the serial interface transfer end flag (SIOF) is set to 1 following eight counts of the clock.
  • The initial input level of the external clock pin must be driven high.
  • After reset is deasserted, the initial value of SOUT is "Hiz".
